Originally set in France, Pierre Beaumarchais’ “The Mad Day: or the Marriage of Figaro” was reset and rewritten after a private court reading compelled King Louis XVI to ban it. This production of Mozart’s classic opera imagines a private reading of the play prior to its revision at a salon one year before the start of the French Revolution.
